How GAF Helps Sustainability in the Roofing Industry
GAF, North America’s largest roofing manufacturer, is committed to upholding their responsibility as a steward for the environment. The brand states in their mission statement that sustainability is being promoted in all areas of their business. They manifest their sustainability efforts through their continuous support of different aspects of the roofing industry.
1. Manufacturing. GAF has developed EverGuard® TPO roofing, a “cool roofing” material made of polypropylene. “Cool roofing” means it’s designed to reduce energy consumption and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The company has so far produced over 2 billion square feet of this material, and offered by top roofing contractors in Stamford, CT, like Vinylume as an alternative to EPDM and other roofing materials. A volunteer Green Champion is present at each GAF facility to monitor plant performance and promote sustainability goals.
2. Contractors. GAF has developed CREST (Cool Roof Energy Savings Tool), an online portal designed to help roofers in Stamford, CT, estimate energy savings for building owners. Contractors can enter the specifics of a roofing project and the potential energy savings estimate is generated. CREST has so far analyzed over 24 million square feet worth of proposed cool roof installations.
