A well maintained roof deter mosquitoes during summer
Beating the heat isn’t the only thing we have to be concerned about during summer. We also have to worry about insect activity. Pests like mosquitoes can be a real hazard this season. According to this report from The Courant:
State public health officials disclosed Tuesday that last fall a Connecticut resident died of Eastern equine encephalitis, the state’s first confirmed human case of the rare and often fatal virus.
The adult resident of eastern Connecticut had been hospitalized with encephalitis and died in the fall, and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed to the state earlier this spring that the patient was positive for EEE. The patient had been tested for West Nile virus, according to state officials, but waz s not tested for EEE before death. Further testing after the patient died led to the post-mortem diagnosis of EEE infection.
EEE is a disease that is transmitted through mosquito bites, just like Dengue Fever and West Nile Virus. The presence of such a rare disease should be a cause for alarm. Don’t be another victim and take the necessary steps to avoid being bitten in the first place. And the first thing to be checked is your Connecticut roofing.
Here are a few steps to help make your home mosquito-free:
- With all the downpours we’ve been getting lately, there might be a buildup of stagnant water around your home especially on your roof gutters wherein they lay their eggs. Get rid of this if there’s any.
- Any damage sustained by the house should be fixed immediately, especially holes and cracks on the roof which can allow mosquitoes to enter.
- Do your best to make your home cool and comfortable through proper insulation because mosquitoes are attracted to certain human scents especially sweat.
Keep in mind that to deter these pests, your roof needs proper maintenance by ensuring that it is properly sealed and insulated. If you need any help achieving those steps, roofing contractors in CT like Vinylume Home Improvement will be there at a phone call’s notice.
